Wematch in Securities Finance Times' Tech 2024: Driving Transformation in Securities Finance

At Wematch, we’re passionate about driving the transformation of the securities finance industry through cutting-edge technology and close collaboration with our clients and partners. In a recent interview with Securities Finance Times, two of our co-founders, Joseph Seroussi and David Raccat, shared insights into our successful partnership with Eurex and our long-term vision for revolutionising the securities finance landscape. Here’re some of the highlights:

Tackling Industry Challenges Head-On

We’ve identified the growing need for multiple liquidity channels, alternative platforms, and pre-trade optimisation tools as critical issues in securities finance. Our state-of-the-art technology helps firms navigate the evolving regulatory landscape, particularly in meeting the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) data requirements. Our Data & Contribution service provides tradable price observations and historical data, enabling firms to pass the Risk Factor Eligibility Test and comply with regulations more efficiently.

Record Growth and Client-Centric Focus

We’re proud to announce that our ongoing notional volume has reached an impressive US$320 billion, a testament to our commitment to innovation, client-centric approach, and dedicated teams. Our platform’s key differentiators include a powerful collateral optimiser, seamless connectivity and integration, and continuous client-driven innovation on a modern, agile technology stack.

Transforming Post-Trade Processes

In 2023, we launched several groundbreaking tools to streamline post-trade processes. Our FRM Optimiser simplifies and optimises the recall and substitution process for securities-based lending financing trades, while our TRS Cash Flow Manager automates cash flow management for total return swaps. Our Data & Contribution service addresses data challenges in the TRS market, particularly for regulatory requirements such as FRTB.

Harnessing the Power of Emerging Technologies

At Wematch, we recognise the immense potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in transforming the securities finance industry. We plan to gradually incorporate these technologies into our platform, enhancing our existing offerings while maintaining the highest standards of security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.

Pioneering Partnerships and Interoperability

We’re excited about our partnership with Eurex, set to launch in Q3 2024, which will enable interoperability between our TRS module and Eurex’s Basket Total Return Futures (bTRF) products. This collaboration aims to revolutionise end-to-end workflows for bTRF market participants, unlocking new levels of efficiency, standardisation, and risk management.

We also firmly believe in the potential of distributed ledger technology (DLT) to transform collateral management. We’ve partnered with HQLAx , Ownera, and J.P. Morgan for repo execution with delivery-versus-payment (DVP) settlement across different distributed ledgers.

Our Vision for the Future

At Wematch, our long-term vision emphasises the importance of interoperability, cross-product solutions, and becoming a comprehensive, integrated platform for securities finance market participants. By offering a product-agnostic, single-provider solution, we aim to help our clients optimise workflows, collateral, and inventory across securities lending, TRS, and bTRFs.

As the securities finance industry continues to evolve, we remain committed to driving innovation and collaboration, empowering market participants with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive landscape. We’re excited about the future and look forward to working closely with our clients and partners to shape the future of securities finance.
