Why end-user collaboration is key to creating the best possible digital tools for dealers

In the past, software development was a top-down affair. Vendors identified market needs or opportunities and engineered solutions to fit those needs. In the process, they might engage with managers at target organizations to better understand their operational needs, but even then the distance between the designer of a solution and its end-user was long and meandering. Anyone who has experienced frustration at an application with limited functionality or clunky interfaces will be all too aware of the consequences of this approach.

Today things are changing. Thanks to the cloud, software development can occur much faster and at a lower cost. As a result, DevOps is increasingly the design mode of choice for forward-looking organizations, an approach where products are innovated at a faster pace and with increased input from end users.

As a fintech innovator, at Wematch we are embracing customer-centric design and shortening the distance between user and developer. We work with the direct input of our users, who are dealers at buy- and sell-side firms, to design digital workflows that address their most common pain points and help them work more effectively.

One way we engage with our user base is through our development forums, where end users can talk directly with our top developers. These forums lead directly to improvements to our core platform and tools. For instance, at one of our TRS Forums, our customers let us know that cash flow management is one of their biggest challenges, particularly when it comes to inventory optimization and cash flow reconciliation. As a result, we developed and launched our Cash Flow Management module for TRS, which directly addresses these pain points through automated processes.

As we go about improving our existing products and launching new ones, we will always work in close harmony with end users. The approach is mutually beneficial: customers benefit from tools that meet their needs exactly and in the process we are designing products that are fast becoming the industry benchmark for quality.
