Wematch.live: Hi Mitch! Can you start by telling us about your journey in the IT field and how you found your way to your current role?

Mitch: Absolutely. My journey in IT began with a childhood fascination for technology, especially PCs. I remember booting into Windows 95 from MSDOS, playing games, and navigating my home network’s parental controls. This early passion led me to study systems administration and network security in college. After a brief stint as a grill chef (!), I entered the IT industry as a support analyst in the retail sector. Over the past eight years, I’ve evolved from support roles to focus on IT operations and cybersecurity. Now, I leverage my education and operational expertise to safeguard Wematch’s systems and drive digital innovation.

Wematch.live: That’s quite a journey, Mitch. What interested you the most about joining the team at Wematch.live?

Mitch: What intrigued me most about joining Wematch was the opportunity to expand my expertise in cybersecurity while gaining valuable insights into fintech and startups. It felt like a perfect fit for my professional growth.

Wematch.live: Moving on to your day-to-day work, what do you find most meaningful or enjoyable?

Mitch: The people here are fantastic, and the leadership is strong and open. The collaborative atmosphere makes each day meaningful, and the constant drive for excellence is truly enjoyable.

Wematch.live: Reflecting on your time at Wematch, what accomplishments are you most proud of?

Mitch: I’m proud to have played a key role in establishing our new Broker Dealer entity in the US, navigating through the technical and compliance requirements. Additionally, contributing to improvements in security practices and raising awareness has been a significant achievement.

Wematch.live: It sounds like you’ve had impactful experiences. How has working at Wematch provided you with opportunities for growth and development?

Mitch: I’ve learned a great deal about ISO 27001, vulnerability management, and international compliance standards. The continuous learning environment here has been instrumental in my professional development.

Wematch.live: We believe the culture at Wematch is essential. What’s your favourite thing about the culture and values here?

Mitch: I appreciate the strong focus on innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the firm. The culture encourages creativity, teamwork, and constant improvement, aligning perfectly with my own values and driving us towards success in the dynamic fintech landscape.

Wematch.live: What inspires and motivates you on a daily basis?

Mitch: The dynamic nature of my role is what inspires and motivates me daily. No two days are the same, providing constant learning opportunities and keeping me engaged.

Wematch.live: Outside of work, what hobbies, activities, or passions do you enjoy?

Mitch: I’m into rock climbing, cooking, and engaging in ethical hacking challenges like Hackthebox. It’s a diverse set of activities that keeps me balanced.

Wematch.live: If you could master any skill, what would it be, and why?

Mitch: Memory palace! It’s a fascinating skill that can enhance cognitive abilities and information retention.

Wematch.live: Looking ahead, where do you hope to take your career in the next 3-5 years? What are your long-term goals?

Mitch: In the next 3-5 years, I aim to earn my stripes, complete the OSCP and CISSP certifications, and eventually get promoted to Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). These are my long-term goals, and I’m excited about the journey ahead at Wematch.
